Narrow Leaf Ironweed or Vernonia lettermannii ‘Iron Butterfly’
Ironweed is native to the United States, has lovely fine textured foliage and is a compact, well-branched plant. In late summer, it is covered in purple flowers that attract many pollinators. It grows 2-3’ tall, likes full sun and can withstand periods of drought. When visiting the Zoo you can find Ironweed growing in the Penguin Beach landscape.
